USDA, NASA experts featured at upcoming seminar

An SBIR/STTR seminar featuring USDA and NASA SBIR program managers will take place at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC on Thursday, March 24, 2005 from 8:30 to 11:30AM. The SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) Programs provided over $2 billion in funding to small, innovative US-owned businesses in FY 2004. These funds are set aside from 11 federal agencies to assist small businesses — often university spin-offs — conduct early stage research and development of technologies that can ultimately be commercialized. Both USDA and NASA will release their 2005 solicitations early this summer.

This morning workshop will take place in Coltrane Hall on the campus of North Carolina A&T University. John Ujvari, SBIR program specialist with the SBTDC, will present an introduction to the SBIR and STTR programs, the services that the SBTDC provides to those looking to submit proposals, as well as sources of additional program information. Dr. Siva Sureshwaran, National SBIR program leader with USDA, and Lynn Garrison, SBIR program manager with NASA (Marshall Space Flight Center), will present various SBIR/STTR-related initiatives at their respective agencies. Also learn about these programs from a local STTR awardee's perspective. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with speakers as well as with members of the SBTDC's Winston-Salem and Greensboro offices both during and after the workshop.

There is no charge for admission, but registration is strongly suggested as space is limited. Registration and agenda are available online at www.sbtdc.org/events/sbir/workshops2005/.
