North Carolina start-up discovers multiple
benefits of SBIR award
NDimo, Inc. is an SBIR-funded company which develops new technology for accurate and efficient multi-dimensional tissue velocity measurement in medical ultrasound (ULS). The first phase of NDimo's plan is to implement their technology for enhanced cardiovascular disease (CVD) detection and diagnosis. Their software-based proprietary technology is the Blind Source Separation-Based Velocity Estimation (BSSVE) tool. With BSSVE, clinical tissue velocity measurement can be more accurate than currently possible with existing commercial ULS scanners, allowing for more rapid detection and precise diagnosis of cardiovascular, peripheral arterial, breast and prostate cancer, and other critical diseases. NDimo has developed BSSVE software for leading clinical ULS system manufacturers as an upgrade to their existing software suite. NDimo's BSSVE tool can significantly increase the likelihood of early disease detection, thereby offering compelling returns for both its resellers and investors.
NDimo was awarded SBIR Phase I funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in May 2004. This SBIR support has been invaluable to the success of the company. Beyond financial resources for advanced research and development, the SBIR award has afforded both scientific merit and technological recognition within both technological and commercial sectors. In addition, as an SBIR recipient, NDimo has now joined local and national communities, including the SBTDC, that are rich in expertise and experience. Numerous members of these communities have offered NDimo insightful perspectives that have greatly enhanced the progression of the company. SBIR support has played a critical role in NDimo's early stages of development.
