Department of Energy (DOE)

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy invites applications for cost-shared research and development of technologies which will reduce energy consumption, reduce environmental impacts, and enhance economic competitiveness of the domestic glass industry. Approximately $4 million in FY 2005 funding is expected to be available for 3-5 awards having a project period of up to four years. Cost-sharing of at least 30 percent is required. Eligible are public and private for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Either at least two US glass manufacturers or at least one US glass manufacturer and at least one glass industry equipment manufacturer or service provider must be involved. National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Multiple NIH institutes invite applications for funding to support technology development for biomedical applications. Projects should seek to develop new and improved instruments or devices, new methodologies using existing instruments, or software related to instrumentation. Approximately $1 million in FY 2006 funding is expected to be available for 5-8 awards. Eligible are domestic public and private, for-profit and nonprofit organizations. The National Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute jointly invite applications to support the Partnership for Interdisciplinary Graduate Research Training initiative. This initiative aims to facilitate the development of new training opportunities in emerging interdisciplinary research environments. Eligible are US institutions that grant PhD degrees in appropriate science or engineering disciplines. Phase I proposals are due June 15, 2005. National Science Foundation (NSF)

NSF is soliciting proposals for research and education projects in two areas: collaborative systems and robust intelligence. Additionally, proposals are sought that extend collaborative systems and robust intelligence theories or methods and apply them in three application areas: (1) universal access, (2) digital government and (3) digital libraries and archives. Approximately $60 million in FY 2006 is expected to be available for 150 awards. Eligible are US institutions of higher education, independent nonprofit research organizations, and independent research museums. Proposals deadlines vary by program area, beginning May 3, 2005.
