NC PTAC Sponsors a Veterans Symposium

On December 22, 2006, President George W. Bush signed a critical piece of legislation into law that affects all military veterans and their businesses (Public Law 109-461). The law, among other provisions, provides new tools for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in contracting with veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses to include:

• mandatory goals for contracting participation in VA by Veteran and especially Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses;
• sole source and restricted competition requirements in VA contracting for all veteran businesses;
• mandatory registration of veteran business eligibility for participation;
• business succession to survivor owners and operators of veteran businesses wherein veteran death is due to service disability;
• periodic performance reporting to the U.S. Congress committees on veterans' affairs; and
• veteran priority in all set aside considerations.

In an effort to spread the news and assist the veterans' community through these new processes, the NC Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is partnering with the Center of Veterans Enterprise (CVE) to host a full day (8-5 pm) Veterans' Symposium on August 17th at Campbell University's D. Rich Auditorium. The Symposium will offer seminars and networking opportunities for Veteran Businesses in partnership with the Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC), along with other government contracting representatives. CVE seminars on VA programs will include 'Trailblazers' - a Mentor-Protégé program that is especially designed for veteran-owned businesses. Other seminars on maximizing your networking and marketing opportunities with the VA and Prime Contractors will also be offered.
