Radio Frequency Identification Mandate

REMINDER: Effective January 1, 2006, Department of Defense mandates Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging for ALL classes of supply shipped to the San Joaquin or Susquehanna defense depots, TRANSCOM Facilities and Service Maintenance Facilities. Level of tagging will include shipping containers, palletized unit loads, and exterior containers.

Classes of supply include:

Class I: Subsistence - Subsistence and Gratuitous Health & Comfort Items
Class III: Packaged petroleum, lubricants, oils, preservatives, chemicals & additives
Class IV: Construction & barrier equipment
Class V: Ammunition of all types
Class VII: Major end items (such as engines)
Class VIII: Medical materials to include pharmaceuticals
RFID tagging for Class I Subclass - packaged operational rations and packaged food, Class II - clothing, individual equipment, tools & administrative supplies, Class VI - personal demand items, and Class IX - repair parts & components, was required last year as of January 1, 2005.
