SUCCESS STORY
Survival Innovations
In early 2004, a newly formed business, Survival Innovations in Arden, NC, approached PTAC asking for assistance and guidance in establishing company policies to help contract work from the federal government. At the time, Survival Innovations consisted of three partners possessing the knowledge and experience needed to develop solutions for life support products. The partners had worked for Safety Equipment International, (SEI), which was a part of SIMULA (www.simula.com). SIMULA had been purchased by Armor Holdings (www.armorholdings.com), and SEI moved from North Carolina to Arizona.
Survival Innovations needed help in administration, operations, and quality control policies so they could pursue contracts from the federal government. Their PTAC counselor showed the partners how to most effectively pursue doing business with the federal government and how to approach the federal market. In October 2004, Survival Innovations contacted their counselor with questions about solicitations and contracts. In a November meeting, Survival Innovations stated that a Department of Defense prime contractor was searching for a new vendor to provide part of the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) respirators for aircrews. Since coming to PTAC for assistance, Survival Innovations has become subcontractors on two different government programs.
