Business Cabling, Incorporated
Business
Cabling, Inc. of Wallburg, owned by Bud and Shira Hedgepeth, has been providing
structured cable installations, web development services, and networking solutions
since 1998. Both Bud and Shira will tell you that it is a very competitive market.
"We first started as a sub-contractor for electrical and general contractors on commercial projects," says Bud. Then Shira started surfing theIinternet where she was able to find contract opportunities, so, they started bidding on projects and to their surprise, winning government contracts. "Searching the internet was overwhelming, and the government bid process was confusing and at times...very frustrating," adds Shira. "A lot of what we learned came about from the mistakes we made going through the process," notes Bud. "Fortunately we were referred to the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), and much of our company's success can now be attributed to the PTAC."
"Our Procurement Counselor has been helping us to learn the procurement process, find bid opportunities and negotiate with our customers," says Bud. "We've been given marketing guidance and advice about the 8a Business Development Program. Our counselor has even helped us with the State of North Carolina's procurement process and was instrumental in getting a payment issue resolved with one of the school boards."
Their counselor invited them to attend a Native American Business Networking session which gave Bud and Shira an opportunity to share information with other vendors and to dialog with contracting offices. "That meeting helped us identify additional NAICS codes which led to us finding a contract opportunity on www.fedbizopps.gov, which we would have otherwise missed," adds Shira. That contract was for a project with the U.S. Department of Justice at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina for $40,500.00.
The company has just obtained 8a/SDB status and is now working
with their counselor to develop their capabilities statement. "Our company
networks with the PTAC on a regular basis and appreciate the assistance and
counseling provided," notes Bud. Learn more about Business Cabling, Inc
