RDU To Invest $250 Million In Terminal C

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport Authority has announced plans to effect a major renovation and expansion of Terminal C. The expansion will more than double the terminal's current size and will result in 750,000 square feet of finished space. Construction is expected to begin in 2006 and will continue until 2009.

The Authority will use the single prime contracting method of construction. Five general contractors have been pre-qualified and will be invited to bid. These firms are:

Construction components for the project will include site work, superstructure and roof, exterior closure construction, interior construction, and a variety of building systems including plumbing; HVAC; fire protection; conveyance systems (including elevators, escalators, and moving walkways); electrical work; baggage sorting; and fiber optic cabling throughout the building. A wide variety of trade specialties will be employed to bring the project to fruition.

A series of meetings has been scheduled to disseminate information on the project. The contract was advertised for bids on September 7, 2005. A Pre-Bid Conference, MBE Workshop, and Networking Session were held on September 29, 2005 at the McKimmon Center on the campus of NC State University. Bids from the pre-qualified general contractors will be accepted on December 7, 2005.
