NC MARTEC (Marine Training Center) opens

Carteret Community College officially launched its job training center for marine trades on June 9th during a meeting of more than 50 marine industry representatives. David Flagler of the NC Maritime Museum at Cape Fear Community College (and past director at the Marine Education and Training Center at Honolulu Community College), has been named the training center's director. David also heads-up boat building training.

David Eastwood, responsible for NC MARTEC's marine propulsion training, announced that marine diesel training will soon be offered at NC MARTEC, thanks to an agreement with Cummins Atlantic Inc., the Mid-Atlantic distributor for Cummins Marine, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, and Onan Marine generators. As part of the agreement, the college and Cummins Atlantic Inc, based in Charlotte, will host approximately six, one-week training sessions for Cummins Marine and Cummins MerCruiser Diesel Technicians. The agreement will also include Onan Marine Generator classes.
