There seems to be a pattern that contributes to getting it just right. First, customers stick with you year-to-year. Growth from new and existing clients is additive – you are not just replacing lost business. Second, when internal funding allows you to make strategic choices about scale and scope – you are on your way to winning. Third, if you’re better at gathering scarce resources like information, skilled employees, effective proprietary systems and processes – you have more competitive options to choose from and thus are better able to gage how you want to deploy capital in pursuit of growth at a pace that’s right for you.
