Attendees also will be given an opportunity to review a sample Phase 1 proposal, and discover the value and limitations of sample proposals.

- Session starts: 8:00 am
- Materials, lunch, and break refreshments provided
Workshop B: The Commercialization Imperative
Presenter: Lea Strickland, FOCUS Resources
Room: Crown
Description: Government grants and contracts are not the end game. Commercialization of the technology, products, and research that are funded in part by federal funds is the objective. Turning your idea into a thriving product in an existing business or an entirely new business is one component of the SBIR Program – Phase III is Commercialization, but it doesn’t include SBIR dollars and it isn’t a 1- 2-3 process with the government as your customer at the end of the grant. Commercialization is imperative to building your business and no one will do it for you. Learn how to go from concept to commercialization, from lab to life, and get started today!
- Workshop check-in: 1:00
- Session starts: 1:30 pm

Workshop D: R&D Project Planning, Cost Estimating and Control
Presented by: John Davis, SBIR Resource Center
Room: Piedmont Room
Description: Small-budget, short-duration projects, like SBIR/STTR, are absolutely the most dangerous to manage. When problems occur, and they will, there is precious little time or budget available to effect corrective actions. In addition, the proper planning, cost estimating and demonstration of project management skills are vital to crafting winning proposals. This short workshop, presented by a 30 year veteran of the R&D Project Management wars and a specialist in SBIR/STTR, will present the actionable fundamentals of what every applicant and project manager needs to know/do to be successful. A class workbook will be provided.
