Roebuck Precision Machine

By Ariana Billingsley, SBTDC/PTAC Counselor at East Carolina University

Roebuck Precision Machine Inc. (RPM Inc.), a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, is not your typical machine shop. They specialize in manufacturing, fabricating and reverse engineering several quality products, from their many product lines. Their mission is pretty straight forward: “if you do not find a product in our catalogs that specifically addresses your application please give us a call and we will gladly tailor to your needs”

Located in Goldsboro, NC, RPM was established in May 1985, by owners Michael and Jesse Roebuck. Michael served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Briscoe DD-977 from 1979-1983 and retired from United States Navy Reserves in 2001. Both Michael and Jesse are certified Tool & Die Makers with the North Carolina Department of Labor.

In 2006, the Roebucks looked for opportunities to grow their business and chose to diversify by expanding into the material handling and specifically focused on government sales. They reached out to PTAC early in the process to learn more about government contracting, registrations requirements and certifications. They also needed assistance with marketing their products and getting their information out to government buyers on military bases and other facilities.

Their persistence and hard work paid off when in 2010 they were awarded their GSA schedule. Most recently RPM reached back out to their PTAC counselor for assistance with market research in identifying products that government buyers were purchasing through the schedule as well as outreach strategies that yield best results. As a small business they understand that they cannot be everywhere, so identifying the right agencies and event to attend was paramount. RPM updated their GSA Advantage Catalog and decided to participate at events where target agency buyers would be. To date the company has been awarded many contracts through their schedule from different departments including the U.S. Coast Guard, Air Force, Army, Navy and the Department of VA. RPM will continue their collaboration with PTAC as they look for other opportunities to increase their government contracting sales.
